The Georgia Bulldogs dropped their second game of the season when they dropped Saturday’s game against the Ole Miss Rebels. It was a tough loss for head coach Kirby Smart to take but it’s one that he knows his team needs to bounce back from.

Following the game, Smart shared that his message to the Georgia players is that they came into the season knowing it would be difficult but that everything is still in front of them.

“It’s on to the next,” Kirby Smart said. “I mean, welcome to the SEC, baby. I mean, I said when the season started that it was going to be the toughest schedule we’ve ever had in the SEC with the addition of the Texas game on top of all the others we had to play. It’s extremely tough. It’s difficult. I mean, the outlook of going to those four road games, the Kentucky, the Texas, the Alabama, and this one, we knew it was going to be really tough.”

The Georgia Bulldogs have now dropped two road games against ranked opponents this season. That makes the Bulldogs one of five SEC schools with two losses. There are also two SEC schools with only one loss. So, it’s crowded in the race for the SEC Championship Game and, ultimately, the 12-team College Football Playoff.

“And as you go through the season you get injuries,” Smart said. “I mean, they’ve got injuries too. Everybody’s got injuries. It just makes it tough. It’s tough, but you know what, our future’s in front of us. We’ve got a big game next week. We’ve got to go out, and we’ve got to find a way to execute at a higher level.”

Kirby Smart is right that next week’s game is a big one for the Bulldogs. Georgia will host Tennessee next week in a game that could give them a third loss of the season, potentially knocking the Bulldogs out of the Playoff. However, it could also turn into a marquee win that boosts their resume.

Kirby Smart reveals his message to Carson Beck as he goes through struggles

In recent weeks, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has struggled, throwing 12 interceptions in his last six games. With that, Kirby Smart knows he needs to send a message to his quarterback amid those struggles.

“There’s need to hear and then there’s need to reaffirm what’s true,” Smart said. “What’s the actual truth? Because we don’t deal in narratives and themes and what people say and social media fodder and what you guys think. We deal in truths… Like, that’s a good decision, that’s a poor decision, that’s a good drop, that’s a bad drop, that’s a good protection of the ball — if you’re gonna take a sack — that’s a poor protection of the ball. We deal in truths, and we don’t go much past that.”

Despite those struggles, Kirby Smart added he would “absolutely not” consider a change at quarterback.
