Kirby Smart reveals what's next for him immediately following end of spring game
Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs can really evaluate themselves following the end of the spring game, and the head coach will certainly take his time.
Smart said he didn’t want to rush anything after scrimmage No. 3. But at the very least, he wanted to evaluate how far the Bulldogs came from the first to the last.
But before game film study, Smart has to put his recruiting hat back on for Georgia.
“Yeah, we’re gonna be recruiting,” Smart said on 680 The Fan. “I mean, the first thing we do is we have kids that come on campus and want to make sure they are serious. We get to spend time with their families while they’re here. We’ll have a couple of official visitors which ties into Sunday, meaning I get to spend time with them on Sunday and help welcome their families and embrace them and what I hope is tremendous weather and tremendous opportunity for some guys to grow up and play.
“You know, I’ll worry about the tape of the game probably on Sunday when the recruits are gone and take my time and look at it and watch it say okay, look, this is how far we came from scrimmage one to scrimmage, three. And where do we need to go to get where we need to be?”
Smart and Georgia look for national title No. 3 in 2023, which would be the team’s third straight championship. It’s a feat never accomplished in modern day college football.

Kirby Smart evaluates Georgia quarterback battle
Smart assessed Carson Beck, Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton and examined their approach to the position. From Smart’s perspective, avoiding mistakes and “eliminating losing the game” is key.
“You’ve got to make good decisions,” Smart said. “Use your rules. Take your coaching. And then not make mistakes. That’s ultimately what a quarterback does. It’s not just making plays, it’s not making mistakes. And eliminating losing the game is the first objective.”
As for a decision on who will get the keys to the offense to start 2023, Smart isn’t there yet.
“All three of them are really good leaders,” Smart said. “All three of them are really good quarterbacks and the beauty is we get more time to process information. Do you make a decision on an investment when you’re 25% done looking at it? No. I make a decision when I’m 100% through looking at it, and we’re about 25% of the practices we would get before we kick off next year.”
