Kirby Smart injury update: Georgia coach talks sore throat, more
Kirby Smart was on the injury report this week! Well sort of since he seemed to be under the weather during his press conference this week.
Smart said he felt fine but couldn’t shake a cough. Heck, he said he’s had it since the Texas game.
Now that he said that, perhaps there is a theory!
“I just got a cough, I can’t figure it out,” Smart said. “I haven’t been able to beat it since Texas. Ever since we got back, I feel fine. Just got a little throat deal, coughing bad, haven’t been able to get rid of it. I don’t feel bad, I just can’t get over this cough.”
Smart yells doesn’t he? He must’ve yelled at some point during the win over previously ranked No. 1 Texas. Just drink a lot of hot tea with a lemon and honey coach.
Hey, how about a Hot Toddy? Georgia is playing at Ole Miss on November 9th following the World’s Biggest Outdoor Cocktail Party vs. Florida this weekend. Sp, it works for both!
Moving forward, there were some questions about Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, following his three interceptions in the win over the Longhorns.

Smart has no worries and expressed continued confidence in his QB.
“I’ve seen him do it so long,” Smart said. “I was telling somebody at practice the other day, ‘You know this kid’s been here since Covid year.’ When I think about that, I still remember going to Arkansas to play and he was part of our program and see him go through so much, he’s seen so much. He’s had so many reps. And I’ve just got a lot of trust and confidence in him. He’s intelligent. He makes good decisions.”
Smart didn’t shy away from that, but noted his quarterback doesn’t either. And he’s confident that both Beck and the pieces around him on offense have the resilience to come back and play to the level Smart knows they’re capable of.
“He’s had some throws that I know he wishes — he’d take back,” Smart said. “And he admits that. But when it comes down to it, I still believe in this guy and believe in him and our system and the players around him. They’ve got tremendous resilience. I don’t know what the stats our, but it seems like every time we have to have a drive, we have a drive.
“And we had to have a drive against Auburn, Mississippi State and he comes up with a drive. He did that last year. And that was one of those moments, it didn’t start out great that drive, we had lost our momentum. But he threw a strike on third down, that was a big play.”
