Georgia continues to tear through the SEC, taking down Tennessee in dominant fashion on Rocky Top. Unfortunately, there are some injuries Kirby Smart is dealing with inside his team, specifically on the offensive side of the ball. Carson Beck has been dealing for the Dawgs but for the most part, did so without two of his biggest stars.

The first was RaRa Thomas, who is dealing with what Smart described as a foot issue. There is good news surrounding his injury though, with tests coming back negative.

“RaRa, foot was bothering him,” Smart said. “X-Ray was negative. It wasn’t an ankle sprain. It was probably more of a foot sprain… We don’t really know because the X-Rays are negative. So, that’s the good news. But it’s not ankle.”

Thomas only caught one pass, going for 18 yards. Other Georgia receivers were able to pick up the slack and a good offensive performance was put on.

Unfortunately, one of those was not Ladd McConkey — somebody who has had problems all season. The latest came last week against Ole Miss, suffering an ankle injury. Entering Saturday’s game against Tennessee, there was hope McConkey could play but Georgia was not confident enough to send him out there.

“Ladd got an ankle last week,” Smart said. “Didn’t practice all week. Thought he would be able to go and was not really able to. He tried, got a little warmups, did some things. But he didn’t practice all week. It happened in the game against Ole Miss.”

Injuries or not, Georgia moving on to rivalry game vs. Georgia Tech

Injuries have been a problem for Georgia on offense this season and they have been to some of their biggest stars across the field. Thomas is just the latest, while McConkey took some time to make his 2023 season debut.

But somehow, they have been able to play at a high level. Whether it’s Amarius Mims or Brock Bowers, the offense has not skipped a beat too much thanks to the great play from Carson Beck. Not too many quarterbacks have been playing as well as Beck of late.

Now, the next team will be a bitter in-state rivalry game against Georgia Tech. Sure, Smart will want to have two of his top receivers available for the game but Georgia has been able to prove they are able to keep the drum beating when injuries attempt to take them down.
