Kirby Smart has his eyes on the Georgia offense. As the Bulldogs enter the summer offseason, Smart joined McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning to provide some insight on that side of the football.

“We got to be able to be multiple, and do some things,” began Smart. “We’ve got some experience coming back, but lost some good backs. Lost a couple good offensive lineman. But that’s going to be the case every year, especially if you have a good team. You’ve got to get used to losing good players.”

Of course, losing good players is the trade-off to having good players. Nevertheless, Smart believes many discounted how good Georgia was on offense last season, and they’re ready to take it another step further in 2022.

“We want to be explosive, and we were last year,” responded Smart. “People had this — everybody talked about the defense. They got overshadowed, that we were top ten in explosive passes. A lot better than a lot of teams in the country at throwing the ball down the field. We did that very effectively because we were able to run the ball. So, we have to continue to do that.

“We’ve got some tight ends we have to utilize, we’ve got three or four wideouts who are really good players. And we think we’ve got some really good, young backs who are going to help us. So, with Stetson [Bennett] coming back and the other quarterbacks we have competing, I’m excited for what we can do offensively.”

Evidently, Kirby Smart isn’t sweating his team’s offensive ability. As he prepares to have all of college football gunning for them, the Georgia coach believes his team will be ready.

Kirby Smart on NIL change: ‘I would probably look for something uniform’

Moreover, Kirby Smart was also asked what one rule he would change if given total control over college football after winning the national championship. His response this offseason came as no surprise.

“I would probably look into something uniform for NIL,” said Smart. “There’s a certain point where certain players have an ability to make a lot of money, and I think that’s great for the guys that have earned it, that are marketable – just like the same guys in the NFL earn it and get it. There’s certain positions that get more than others.

But if you could make it a uniform deal where the schools that have the capacity to give – some schools can’t afford to do NIL, some schools just don’t have the support base to do that – but the schools that are marketable and they can do that, it would be nice to be able to give each one something. But not make it out of control that it effects the game. I think that’s hard to do. It’s hard to manage because every situation’s different, every player’s different. … Thing’s change over the course of time and the market kind of sets itself in that regard.”
