Kirby Smart provides status updates on William Poole, AD Mitchell ahead of South Carolina
On Monday after Georgia’s takedown of Samford, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart updated the status of two players the team missed on Saturday. Smart shared that cornerback William Poole wasn’t “in the lineup” on Saturday but didn’t mention an injury evaluation.
As for wide receiver AD Mitchell, who exited the game after one play, the Bulldogs are being cautious with him to start the week.
“Definitely, AD, we’re not going to practice (him) today,” Smart said. “We’re hopeful that he’s able to make it, Ron’s optimistic. We’ll see on Poole. Right now, he just wasn’t in the lineup to play.”

After Saturday’s game, Smart said that Mitchell could have probably gone back into the game. Therefore, his update on Monday is not a positive one.
Mitchell exited the game after UGA’s first play from scrimmage. He caught a quick screen and was tackled after a four-yard gain. The sophomore wideout got up and made his way to the Georgia sideline with a significant limp and immediately went into the injury tent.

Once AD Mitchell emerged from the injury tent, he went to the locker room and did not return.
In Week One, Mitchell caught four passes for 65 yards and a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ 49-3 season-opening win against Oregon. He was also one of the heroes of the National Championship victory over Alabama. He caught the 40-yard, go-ahead touchdown with eight minutes left.
With the sophomore wideout out of commission for most of the game, running back Kenny McIntosh and tight end Brock Bowers led the team in receptions.
Smart, Bulldogs open as double-digit favorites over Gamecocks
The oddsmakers released the lines for Week 3 games across the slate, including the Bulldogs’ first game of the season versus the South Carolina Gamecocks. Georgia is favored by 24.5 points in the noon game on the road in Columbia.
The polls have the reigning national champions as the No. 1 team in the country once again. The Gamecocks haven’t beaten Georgia since 2019.
