Kirby Smart reveals injury to Marvin Jones Jr., impact on snap count
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart revealed during his Tuesday press conference Marvin Jones Jr. picked up an ankle injury last week that had limited him in the Kentucky game.
“He’s doing great,” Smart said. “Marvin was dealing with an ankle injury. He sprained his ankle on Tuesday — maybe it’s Wednesday —Tuesday or Wednesday, he sprained his ankle. Him and Brock collided and stepped on it. He rolled his ankle. Couldn’t practice Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Felt like he could go Saturday. We took him out the warm-ups and he thought he could go.
“He was able to go a little bit. He played some. He really pushed through the pain really well but he didn’t get a lot of reps in terms of it and probably wasn’t quite 100%. Played more in the previous games. He’s had a run of tough luck with two games almost missed with different things. He’s done a great job in practice and he’s got a really bright future. He’s a very talented player. He’s very smart. He’s one of the guys that we can say he knows the defense inside and out and can go out there and execute to a high level.”
Another injury update Smart provided Tuesday was on running back Branson Robinson, who was ruled out in August until the end of the season.

Smart said Robinson is starting to get back to some physical activity.
“He is getting closer to dry land running, weight-bearing running,” Smart said. “But doubtful for this game. He is closer. I mean, he’s out there running around, but he’s not practicing with us.”
The Georgia offense has done a good job this season without Robinson as starting quarterback Carson Beck has continued to improve throughout the year.
Beck explained what the standard was for the offense earlier in the week.
“First and foremost, just execute,” Beck said. “Our goal every single time we step on the field, every single drive, is to score a touchdown. Obviously, is that gonna happen? Probably not, but it is a goal.”
