Kirby Smart updates the injury status of Darris Smith, David Daniel-Sisavanh vs. Vanderbilt
A pair of Georgia defenders are still working back from injuries ahead of a matchup against Vanderbilt this Saturday. On the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday, head coach Kirby Smart offered brief updates about linebacker Darris Smith and defenisve back David Daniel-Sisavanh.
As of mid-week, Smart is hopeful that Daniel-Sisavanh will be able to go on Saturday. Both coming back seems less likely, though.
“As of right now, David is back with us and is practicing and should be good to go this weekend, at least hopefully he is. And Darris is still dealing with some other issues and things that right now, I don’t know if he’s available to play or not for this week,” Smart said.
Smart also offered more promising news on linebacker Marvin Jones Jr., who played on a sprained ankle against Kentucky last Saturday.
“He’s been great, he’s done a good job. I mean he played in the game, like we talked about. He’s able to play, didn’t have any setbacks. Really was more limited reps all week last week in terms of, just didn’t get the volume of reps and he felt it some and pregame and didn’t feel like he was 100% but was able to go and he’s been practicing this week,” Smart said.

Smart first revealed Jones’ injury on Tuesday
Smart revealed during his Tuesday press conference that Jones picked up an ankle injury last week that had limited him in the Kentucky game.
“He’s doing great,” Smart said. “Marvin was dealing with an ankle injury. He sprained his ankle on Tuesday — maybe it’s Wednesday — Tuesday or Wednesday, he sprained his ankle. Him and Brock collided and stepped on it. He rolled his ankle. Couldn’t practice Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Felt like he could go Saturday. We took him out the warm-ups and he thought he could go.
“He was able to go a little bit. He played some. He really pushed through the pain really well but he didn’t get a lot of reps in terms of it and probably wasn’t quite 100%. Played more in the previous games. He’s had a run of tough luck with two games almost missed with different things. He’s done a great job in practice and he’s got a really bright future. He’s a very talented player. He’s very smart. He’s one of the guys that we can say he knows the defense inside and out and can go out there and execute to a high level.”
