Mykel Williams
Five-star DL Mykel Williams was in Athens, Ga., again this weeeknd for a visit.

Columbus (Ga.) Hardaway five-star defensive lineman and USC commit Mykel Williams was back at Georgia this past weekend for the second time in three weeks.

He recapped the visit by tweeting out an impressive photo of himself overlooking Sanford Stadium decked out in a full UGA uniform.

The photos were similar to what other recruits tweeted while on campus this weekend, including coveted receiver prospect Luther Burden. But UGA fans had to love the picture of Williams dressed in Red and Black from head to toe.

UGA fans welcomed Mykel Williams with Gameday signs

Mykel Williams is a top target for the Bulldogs staff and of UGA fans.

Bulldog fans in attendance during Saturday morning’s College Gameday in Georgia held up five posters that spelled out Williams’ first name.

Even, Corey Thompson, Williams’ high school coach, noticed the signs and tagged his five-star player in a tweet.

On3 experts says Williams may flip

Mykel Williams has been one of the hottest recruits in 2022 recruiting cycle since Clay Helton‘s firing at USC.

Georgia, who On3’s Chad Simmons said finished No. 2 to the Trojans for the five-star, have been pushing even harder for Williams since then.

Alabama and Florida have also been in the mix, but in-state Georgia has been leading the pack of suitors after Williams.

Simmons said he thinks the biggest aspect of Williams’ decision will be who is leading the USC program come next season.

“Really, it just comes down to the coaching staff,” Simmons said. “Who’s the next head coach? Do they retain Donte Williams? Do they retain the defensive line coach Vic So’oto? I think those are key things Mykel is waiting for. He remains committed to USC right now. A lot of buzz around here about the in-state Georgia Bulldogs. But again, Mykel is saying all the right things about USC. His plan is to wait and see. But a visit to Georgia this past weekend. He’ll return in two weeks and then keep an eye on Alabama and Florida as well.”

Jake Reuse of On3’s DawgNation feels good about UGA’s chances with Williams.

“Georgia has put in plenty of effort with Mykel Williams and for good reason,” Reuse said. “The Dawgs want to keep the pass rusher ranks stocked with top talent, and there’s no denying that Williams is one of the best in the 2022 cycle. His commitment to Southern Cal did almost nothing to change the pursuit, and if anything, it may have seen Georgia turn up the heat.

“He’s no stranger to Athens, and while he’s maintained he’s still committed to the Trojans, we expect him to stay home in the end and make Kirby Smart and company very happy.”
