WATCH: Luke Bryan shares hilarious, confusing moment with American Idol contestant from Georgia
American idol judge and Georgia native Luke Bryan shared a confusing and hilarious moment with a contestant from another country. The contestant introduced herself as being from Georgia, leading to Bryan quickly adding “me too.”
Unfortunately for the poor woman, she was from the country of Georgia and not the U.S. state where the country singer grew up. Although they share the same name, Bryan grew up in the state well south of the Canadian border while she hailed from the country south of Moscow, Russia.
As his fellow panelists, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, laughed at his joke Bryan doubled down by asking the woman “Go Dawgs?” Visibly confused at the difference in accents between her and Bryan, she tried to repeat the phrase and managed to get out something close enough — “Go dongs.“
Luke Bryan shouts out Georgia Bulldogs on American Idol
The American Idol talent search is no stranger to poking fun at contestants as they try to impress the judges, but rarely are moments as wholesome and utterly confusing to the contestants as they were with Bryan and the country of Georgia. Even after the awkward first meeting between her and the judges, it was obvious that the contestant had no idea what Bryan was trying to get her to say, let alone what he meant by being from Georgia as well.

Bryan’s Georgia Bulldogs fandom is no secret either, even before his joking on American Idol. When ESPN’s College GameDay travelled to Athens last season for Tennessee’s showdown with the Bulldogs, Bryan joined the program as a guest picker for the big game.
Although the future back-to-back national champion Bulldogs probably didn’t need any extra luck before the game, Bryan was on hand for their 27-13 victory over the Volunteers and certainly celebrated when they hoisted the trophy back in January.
