Former Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt took to Twitter to congratulate several former Bulldog players after the Super Bowl, including his former starting quarterback Matthew Stafford.

“Congratulations to [former] Dawgs Stafford, Floyd, Michel, Brown, and Jones,” Richt shared. “So proud of you guys! Super Bowl champions!”

Richt coached at the University of Georgia for 15 years before his dismissal in 2015. In the 15 seasons, the Bulldogs won the SEC title twice (in 2002 and 2005) and finished in the top 10 in seven of them. He finished his time in Athens with a 145-51 record.

Mark Richt coached Los Angeles Rams quarterback and now Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford from 2006 to 2008. After enrolling early at Georgia, he started in his freshman season. He left Georgia after three seasons to enter the NFL Draft early, going No. 1 overall to the Detroit Lions.

Richt also coached Rams linebacker Leonard Floyd in his time at Georgia. The Bears drafted Floyd ninth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He posted five tackles and a sack on Sunday versus the Bengals.

Rams running back Sony Michel won his second Super Bowl this weekend. He picked up his first ring with the New England Patriots with a victory over the Rams in 2019. He had just two rushing attempts in L.A.’s 23-20 victory.

Former White House staff member shares eye-opening Stafford story

Following the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl 56 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, an unlikely source shared an eye-opening story of a 2012 encounter with quarterback Matthew Stafford. Gene Sperling, former director of the National Economic Council under the Barack Obama administration, tweeted a photo of Matthew Stafford at a White House event in the West Wing.

“On May 10, 2012, I gave Matthew Stafford (who was in a financial literacy event) a tour of the West Wing,” Sperling shared. “I told him ⁦@BarackObama⁩ was not in WH. He said ‘No worries. There’s only one way an NFL QB should ever get to come to WH and meet the President.’ His moment has come.”

Stafford was heading into his fifth year with the Detroit Lions at the time of his West Wing visit. It took him another nine years after the visit, but he will finally get to meet the President of the United States this year when the Rams celebrate their victory at the White House.

The former Georgia Bulldogs first-rounder threw for 283 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions on Sunday night.
