Report: Georgia hires Mark Robinson as Associate AD, Chief of Staff for football, Kirby Smart
Georgia hired Mark Robinson as a new Associate AD and Chief of Staff of the football team, according to ESPN’s Chris Low. He’ll work directly with Kirby Smart as well.
“Veteran football administrator Mark Robinson has been hired as associate AD and Kirby Smart’s chief of staff for Georgia Football,” Low wrote on Twitter. “Robinson has a wealth of experience. He was briefly at Florida, worked under Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M and FSU and Bobby Petrino at Arkansas.”
Robinson served as Florida’s Chief of Staff this offseason as he was hired in January of 2024. Albeit briefly, he comes into Georgia with SEC experience.
Prior to Florida, he spent six seasons (2018-2023) at Texas A&M as an Associate AD for Football—his second stint with the Aggies. He served in a similar role Fisher’s staff at Florida State the prior four seasons (2013-16).
Prior to his time in Tallahassee, Robinson worked as the Arkansas director of football operations for five years (2008-12) and served as the Aggies’ football operations assistant for five seasons (2003-07).

Georgia on the field is expected to be the favorite to win it all this season. Robinson’s joining at a good time.

However, off the field is a different story based on myriad legal issues stemming from automobile troubles and Rara Thomas’ indefinite suspension.
According to DawgsHQ’s Jake Rowe, police took Thomas into custody at 3:20 a.m. local time Friday. He is facing two counts of battery – both of which are misdemeanors – and a felony count of cruelty to children. The expectation was a suspension was coming under university policy.
Thomas was gearing up for his second season at Georgia after transferring from Mississippi State, where he spent two years under the late Mike Leach. In 2023, he had 23 receptions for 383 yards and a touchdown as UGA made a run to the SEC Championship.
Rara Thomas is the latest Georgia player to deal with legal issues this offseason. In fact, over the last 18 months, 24 players or other members of the program have been charged with DUI, reckless driving or speeding, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
