Mike White calls win over Notre Dame 'great' for Georgia
Mike White picked up the best win of his Georgia career so far on Sunday. After two of the Bulldogs’ three losses had come against ACC competition, they picked up a quality victory during the Holiday Hoopsgiving event in Atlanta this weekend as they knocked off Notre Dame by a score of 77-62.
As every team is headed towards conference play, picking up momentum wins like this during the non-conference is huge. That’s why, after the win, White was proud of the way his squad learned from earlier in the year. He saw those lessons as vital to how they defeated an opponent that made the NCAA Tournament last season.
“It beats the alternative, right? It beats the ‘learning from a loss’ that we’ve done a couple times already,” said White. “It’s great to beat an ACC opponent, a program that’s at the level that Notre Dame is. A Mike Brey-coached program. It’s a really good win for us as we continue to build.”
Georgia tied for their best offensive output of the season with their 77 points. A big part of that was their hot shooting as they finished at 50% from the field. Their defense got the job done, though, as the Irish turned it over 15 times on top of the Bulldogs outrebounding them by 10.

White saw the growth that he wanted to see from his team over the course of the win in State Farm Arena. That’s all he’s worried about as of now because their development is the key to their success during their upcoming SEC slate, which starts in two weeks.
“We got better. As we preach everyday growth, growth, growth. Development,” White said. “I liked a lot of what I saw out there. We’re continuing to improve, which will give us a chance to be more competitive in the best league in college basketball.”
