Mike White confident Georgia has provided men’s basketball resources to succeed
Despite some recent struggles, Mike White believes he has the Georgia Bulldogs men’s basketball program on the right track at the moment.
The program is currently 14-11 on the season, and things were looking up for awhile, but a rough start to February has them in a less-than-ideal spot entering the final stretch of their regular season schedule. Following their most recent loss to Florida, White elaborated on Georgia’s potential.
“Absolutely, absolutely,” White said, regarding Georgia’s resources for success. “We’re going to get it done here, and we’re going to be prepared on Wednesday. We’re going to have a great practice on Monday. I wish we could practice in an hour. I’d like to go get a bite, maybe some caffeine and get right back to it. But unfortunately, we’ve got to take off until Monday. But again, I’m super appreciative — I’m really disappointed, and I don’t talk — I haven’t done this much in my career, but I was, I was really impressed. Mid-second half, we go on a little run. Really, really loud in there. As loud as I’ve heard it a couple other games this year, which is as loud as I’ve ever heard it in this building. You look up and at one point I actually looked around the entire arena and realized, whether it was full or almost full of what have you, I looked up and I said, ‘My gosh, this place is full and we’ve struggled lately,’ I don’t want to repeat our losing streak again, right here. You guys are probably going to write that.
“But the fact that, despite us losing they way we’re losing, and the environment that we just got, it’s exciting, and I’m disappointed for our fans. I’m more disappointed for our guys, because they’re the ones putting the work in everyday, and I’m really looking forward to getting back to it on Monday.”
As for the remainder of the season, White is hoping the team will be focused on playing better by not doing so many of the undisciplined acts that they do which have been costing them.

“We’ve got to guard a lot better. Got to make simpler decisions with the basketball,” added White. “We just did some stuff tonight that you could say was out of character. But when you’re saying that as often as we’re saying it? Unfortunately, that’s our character right now.”
“Again, some of the live-ball turnovers, some of the other turnovers? Some of the ill-advised fouls? Some of the just getting out of a stance? Not understanding that the screen is coming, dying on screen, and giving up a big three? Those things add up. You can’t win in this league unless you’re more accountable than that, disciplined than that.”
Alas, Georgia’s next opportunity on the floor will be a game against Vanderbilt on Wednesday night, so we’ll see if Mike White can get the Bulldogs back on track for that one.
