Mike White considers how Florida win carried over into Texas win

Georgia won their biggest game of the season last week with their upset of a top-five team in Florida. Their next one was just as important, though, if not more so, with it between two teams right on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament.

Mike White credited the play of the Bulldogs in their 83-67 win at Texas on Saturday. He said there likely was some continuation from their victory over the Gators to their one over the Longhorns as their first consecutive wins in nearly two months. That was really relieving too as it didn’t affect their next one in a bad way.

“From a, from strictly a confidence standpoint, probably some relation there,” said White. “That said, though, after a big, emotional win – and it was an emotional win because we found ourselves up 26 and then we’re down late game, right. I think the bigger fear as a staff is you go into the next one overly comfortable and feeling a little bit too good about yourself. And that was far from who we were.”

Georgia played one of their better games of the season in the sixteen-point outcome on the road in Austin. The ‘Dawgs led from start to finish and by as much as 28 in a game that had play in-type context for March Madness. That’s with them shooting at 51.8% FG and 36.4% 3PT, led by Silas Demery Jr. with a career-high of 26 points (57.1% FG, 50% 3PT), while winning on the glass, in the paint, and with turnovers.

Again, off the biggest win of this tenure on Wednesday, this could have been a letdown spot for Georgia. Instead, the Bulldogs approached it the right way and really impressed their coaches, including White.

“This team is really, really young and so the mindset that we had was much-needed, it was appropriate, and it’s respected by us, you know, as a staff, by myself of course. We were locked in,” White said. “After a big win like that, you know, for a team that’s searching, especially for a road win in the SEC? There was no, there was no difference in our approach, you know, leading into this one with shootaround, with the practices.”

Georgia is still on the line for the bracket entering the final week of the regular season. Still, if they can play like they did in their past two over their final two, they’ll feel much better about their chances of being in the field on Selection Sunday.

“We were good,” said White. “I mean, that’s about as well as we’ve played.”
