Georgia head coach Mike White came away impressed with Auburn all around in the Bulldogs’ 76-64 win over the Tigers, particularly the defense.

Georgia managed to pull away in the second half after leading by seven after the first 20 minutes. The Bulldogs limited the Tigers to just two double-digit scores in Johni Broome and Allen Flanigan.

White had two players in the double digits, led by Terry Roberts who put up 26 points. While it was an upset rankings wise, White pumped the brakes on some monumental victory.

“You know, we were fortunate on some possessions,” White said. “Auburn’s really good. I mean they can beat just about anyone in the country and they’re gonna win a bunch of games they already have, they’re going to continue to do that. And they’re arguably a top 10 defense … I mean, it’s incredible how good (they are) defensively.”

The Tigers have an explosive offense, but it could not fire off on all cylinders, leading the team to its third loss of the year.

“But Auburn offensively again, they missed some open ones,” White said. “Thank goodness. Ball bounced to us a couple of times. Had 21 offensive rebounds, could have been 24 or 25. But were we flying around and trying? Yeah, we really were. Thought our guys played incredibly hard. And that’s what it’s going to take night in and night out to be competitive in this league.”

But it all went back to the preparation for White and Georgia that led the team to its 11th win of the year.

“I thought our attention to detail with scouting was pretty good as it needed to be,” White said. “We got some loose balls. Again, some long rebounds bounced to us. I thought our doubling of Johni Broome required a double in the first half, was a factor, didn’t do as good a job with it in the second half. And then I thought, you know, you’re talking defense you asked defense but I thought the offensive attack down the stretch I thought was pretty solid as well.”

In addition to Roberts scoring 26 points, Kario Oquendo put up 17 points, four rebounds and one assist to aid the efforts.

Georgia is back in action Saturday on the road against Florida at 1:00 p.m. ET.
