Mike White pushes back against narrative surrounding Georgia losses
The Georgia Bulldogs have suffered four consecutive losses inside the SEC, dropping their record to 14-6 on what was a once promising 2024-25 campaign.
While it may feel like the sky is falling after Florida defeated them by 30 over the weekend, Mike White isn’t so sure. The Georgia coach pushed back on that narrative following the demoralizing result, believing that the Bulldogs are much better than the last two weeks have shown, and they’re going to turn this thing around.
“We don’t have a bad loss, we just don’t have a bad loss,” White told the media. “So it’s not — you know if you lose to a couple mid-majors at home, or you lose on the road to a team that’s just an inferior team to you, it’s another story. But we’ve got losses to Quad One teams. We’re not losing to Quad Three teams, or even Quad Two teams. This same thing happened to Tennessee, right? I don’t know what their final score was. It was — it was a sizable win by Florida. Tennessee’s a Top 10 team the country. So, it’s not about, you know, making wholesale changes, and whether or not the wheels are going to fall off. We’ve got a good team. These guys will continue to work and stay together. We’ll have a great practice tomorrow, guaranteed. We’ve just got to play better Tuesday night. Got to figure out this turnover problem, because it leads to other things too.
“Defensively, we’re way better than that, but when you’re throwing the ball to the opposition and they’re going and dunking it, that has an effect negatively on your half-court defense, on your transition defense. I’ve been doing this a long time, and I’ve just never struggled this much with the assist-turnover ratio. We started talking about it — I mean, literally in our first few games, right? In some of those wins at home. It started to grab our attention as a staff. You know, we’ve made it a big deal at times, and then I’ve also, through trial and error, tried the, ‘Let’s just not talk about it for a week. You know, maybe it’s too mental. Maybe it’s this, maybe it’s that.’ We’re gonna keep swinging at it. We’re gonna keep swinging it. We’ll figure it out.”

All told, White might have a point. Three of Georgia’s past four losses have come to Top 10 teams in Tennessee, Auburn and the aforementioned Gators, and the fourth was on the road against a solid Arkansas team by three. As their schedule lightens up, the Bulldogs could put together a nice stretch.
Their home game against South Carolina on Tuesday will be a gigantic litmus test. Mike White recognizes that, and the Bulldogs will be ready to rock when the Gamecocks arrive in Athens. That one tips-off at 7:00 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
