Last year, five Georgia players became first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. Nolan Smith is going to be one of the keys replacing that production — but he might be even more interesting off the field.
During an interview with SEC Network’s Peter Burns, Smith said he’s into fishing. Like, really into fishing. He said when he’s not on the field, he’s usually out on the water.
“I usually am fishing for fun and I say one big thing is I love being out on the boat,” Smith said. “Catching fish, there’s nothing better than that.”

He also discussed what he tries to catch, and it sounds like it’s a little bit of everything. However, he shared a strategy for how to catch more fish, specifically catfish.
“We’re doing bass, we do trout,” Smith said. “But I love fishing saltwater.
“Man, all you need is a hot dog to catch a catfish. Really, and I’m from the country. If you put a hot dog in there for 10 seconds, you’d catch anything out in the water.”

Kirby Smart explains the impact of complacency, why Georgia is still the hunter
Kirby Smart will not let his Georgia squad sit back and be the team with a target on their back throughout the 2022 season. While the Bulldogs ended a title drought that spanned generations last season, Smart told the media at SEC Media Days that his program will not allow people to call them complacent when the season kicks off.
“I’ve done the rounds this morning, I’ll bet you at least 50 people have asked me the question, so feel free when we open up for questions to ask me the concern there is for complacency. That does not concern me in the least,” stated Smart. “To be complacent, you have to have done something and achieved something. The men on this team, for this season, have not done that. They have not.
“15 players that have now gone to the NFL, camps or draft picks. They’re gone. And we have some returning players, but they’re hungry as ever.”
