Nolan Smith jokingly calls out NFL team detailing defensive standard
Georgia junior linebacker Nolan Smith knows the standard for the Bulldogs’ defense is an incredibly high one. The Bulldogs’ defense for the 2021 season is loaded with some of the very best players in America. He spoke about their lofty defensive standard when he spoke with reporters.
“You say that, but now I go back to one of our team goals, the standard. We say nobody in our end zone. That means nobody. I don’t care if we’re playing the New England Patriots, they don’t go in our end zone. That’s just that defensive mindset. You’ve gotta have that mindset…” Smith said.
Of course, Smith is joking here but the way the Georgia defense has been playing, fans have to admit what a treat it would be to see this Georgia defense suit up against an NFL roster.
The talented linebacker noted that there’s no drop-offs in the talent on the Georgia defense, no matter who plays. They all are cheering each other on to make plays and to continue to uphold the standard they’ve set for themselves.
“We always say there’s no drop-offs. If you’re out there, you’re a starter. There’s no ones, twos, and threes. And I’m cheering for Adam [Anderson] if he was out there. I’m sitting there on the sideline cheering him [in] every way and I don’t want nobody to score. We say nobody in our end zone. That’s the standard [that is followed by] everybody,” Smith said.
Georgia defense is truly historic
The 2021 Georgia defense currently ranks among the top teams in the nation in a number of major defensive stat categories: scoring defense (1st), total defense (1st), pass defense (2nd), rushing defense (7th).
The impressive stats don’t stop there. The Bulldog defense currently ranks fifth in the nation with interceptions (seven). They are currently 11th in the country in total sacks (14).

If the Georgia defense keeps this up, they will likely rest their place as one of the greatest defenses in college football history after it’s all said and done.
PFF has even noted how Georgia has 11 created players, as in created players from the NCAA Football video game. PFF is not telling lies.
The Bulldog defense is at the sweet spot that so many teams search for, yet is so difficult to attain; when the best coaching in college football is married with the best defensive players in college football. It’s a beautiful thing for Georgia fans to watch.
The amount of size, speed, and athleticism on the Georgia defensive unit is mind-blowing. Opposing head coaches like South Carolina’s Shane Beamer are blown away by it. Simply put, it’s an incredible unit to watch and football fans across the country should appreciate it.
