Nolan Smith is preparing for the next chapter in his football career, but emotions are still high from how his time at Georgia ended.

Smith went from the highest of highs by capturing back-to-back titles for the Bulldogs, to the lowest of lows, losing teammate Devin Willock in a car accident following the team’s parade.

Speaking at the NFL Combine, Smith was emotional discussing the death of his former Georgia teammate and friend, and had a message for the Bulldogs team moving forward.

“That’s my guy,” Smith told reporters, per DawgsHQ. “That’s one person that never did anything wrong. I get sensitive talking about it just because I love him. He never did anything wrong in his three years.

“He was supposed to graduate. His brother passed like that. I’m sorry to his mama. No one should live like that.”

Additionally, Smith had poignant words for the teammates he left behind in Athens, hoping they continue their string of success in honor of Willock.

“No one should deserve to die like that. He never did s*** wrong. I’m sorry for my language, he never did anything wrong,” Smith added. “Three years in a row, that man showed up worked in day in and day out.

“He’s a two-time Natty Champ, man. It’s written in stone. 77, you’re living forever. ‘Do it for Dev,’ that’s what I tell them boys at Georgia. ‘You lost a brother, do it for Dev.’ I’m sorry to get emotional, I’m the ‘juice’ guy. This is my first time talking about it. Cincinnati (Bengals), they brought it up and I got emotional, too just because I care.”

As you can see, Nolan Smith carries the pain of losing a friend and teammate like Devin Willock with him, and he’ll honor him with everything he does in his football career.

The wounds are fresh, but the message from the former Georgia linebacker is an important one, and the Bulldogs will remember it during their quest for a three-peat.
