Danvers (Mass.) St. John’s Prep four-star safety Joenel Aguero is announcing his commitment July 23. The 5-foot-11, 191 pound prospect is deciding between FloridaGeorgiaMiami and Ohio State.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Bulldogs have a commanding lead for Aguero’s pledge at 77.7%. The Hurricanes have the second-best odds at 18.3%, while the Buckeyes’ chances are at 1.5%. The Gators also have a 1.0% chance.

Aguero took official visits to all four of his finalists last month. He recently told On3’s Chad Simmons that he knows where is committing.

“It really came down to just development, so that’s No. 1,” Aguero said. “Where I feel the best at… that’s key. I don’t want to be at a place where I feel miserable. I want to be at a place where I feel good and surrounded by good people.”

What Aguero sees in the Bulldogs

Aguero also dove into what stands out about his four finalists. Here’s what he told Simmons about Georgia:

“They’ve kind of been on me since Day One pretty much. They’ve kind of been recruiting me hard… Me and Kirby got a great relationship. Got a good relationship with me and my family. You know, (co-defensive coordinator) Will Muschamp, we just always communicate and always had a good relationship. They had the most players drafted ever. That’s the school you want to go to. You know you’ll get developed there. And then (defensive backs) coach Fran Brown, he just hopped on board recently, but me and him are building a relationship, a good relationship.”

Joenel Aguero On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Joenel Aguero:

“Head-hunting, twitched-up safety who is the biggest hitter in the 2023 cycle. Delivers crushing blows over the middle of the field. Explodes into ball carriers and receivers. A top athlete who tests very well in the combine setting. Ran a 4.48 electronically-timed 40-yard dash prior to his junior season. Was considered the top athlete on the loaded IMG Academy defense as a junior. At his best when he can use his athleticism and physicality to play fast and move forward as a cover down defender. More of a strong safety type at this stage. Not overly long and may not have much more room for growth on his 5-foot-11 frame. Will need to continue developing his man coverage skills.”

Aguero is the No. 40 overall prospect and No. 5 safety in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also ranked as the No. 2 player in Massachusetts.
