College football fans may be tired of Georgia winning it all, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be the pick in 2023, according to Paul Finebaum.

The SEC Network host joined two other SEC boys in Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic on their radio show, McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, where the trio discussed all sorts of SEC football topics prior to Week 1 kick-off throughout the next seven days.

One issue that came up is the fatigue around Georgia’s dominance. Not that the Bulldogs themselves have taken the foot off the pedal, but rather, fans and media nationally are now pushing back on the idea of a three-peat. Meanwhile, Finebaum says that’s similar to what used to happen to Alabama back when they were in their 2010s heyday.

“This is a little bit like what we dealt with with Alabama over the years,” he explained. “It became cliche to say, ‘oh, Alabama is going to win the national championship.'”

After two straight titles, now Georgia is the cliche pick.

“I think people just want to find something different,” believes Finebaum. There’s nothing unique or compelling to say ‘Georgia’s going to win.'”

That skepticism comes in the face of some pretty stark evidence that Geogia will still be one of the very best teams in the country, if not the clear No. 1 once again, according to Paul Finebaum.

“I mean, and everyone knows what the odds are and everyone knows how long it’s been since it happened. But I think if you’re a student of the game, and you’re looking at it objectively, and you come up with some other pick, you’re probably not being true to what Georgia has on that roster.”

He’s right. The Dawgs are loaded to the gills once again with blue-chip four-star recruits and plenty of five-stars ready to take the place of the departed draftees.

Now, the big question for most folks is the quarterback position, where a longtime starter and extremely reliable game manager leaves in Stetson Bennett. The replacement, Carson Beck, may possess more raw talent, but football history tells us that it’s hard to imagine a newbie starter will provide superior play to what a senior star and two-time national title winner gave you in 2022.
