Paul Finebaum explains what win over Florida showed about Georgia

Over the weekend, Georgia got a big win over rival Florida in Jacksonville. Ultimately, the Bulldogs won the game relatively easily and analyst Paul Finebaum thinks that showed a lot about this season’s Georgia team.

On The Matt Barrie Show, with the loss of Brock Bowers and the excellent game that Carson Beck had in mind, Finebaum explained what impressed him about Georgia.

“Here’s what impressed me about Georgia, they’ve had two games that were really big according to the hype going in,” Paul Finebaum said. “And the Kentucky game, which pardon the laughter, that really wasn’t very big but it seemed like it, and they delivered. And they did it again.”

In the end, the game wasn’t close. Georgia beat Florida 43-20 but that included late scores by the Gators once the game was already decided. It was a dominant effort by the Bulldogs, particularly quarterback Carson Beck, who threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns.

“I think that shows a good team. We were talking to Kirby Smart prior to the game in Jacksonville, and he said the most important thing in this game is momentum, and you saw that momentum build quickly and it was over. It was suffocating,” Finebaum said.

“I think if you look at SportsCenter this morning and you see the score, you go, ‘Oh, Florida hung in there.’ No, they didn’t. They were down 36-7. They got a couple of garbage touchdowns when Kirby put his kids and his nephew and nieces in. 23 points versus 29, it was very misleading scoring. It was an absolute, behind the barn, ass-kicking.”

Next week, Georgia will be tested again, this time at home in Athens, when the Bulldogs welcome one-loss Missouri between the hedges.

Georgia set to face serious challenges during the upcoming weeks

In the next few weeks, Georgia is going to be challenged against teams like Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ explained what makes this stretch so difficult for the Bulldogs.

“Missouri is a good football team,” Rowe said. “They’re going to have a bye before Georgia. So that’s something that Georgia is going to have to contend with – a fresh, well-coached football team.”

Luckily for Georgia, though, the Bulldogs will be playing two of those three upcoming games at home.

“They kind of get Georgia’s version of the 12th Man in those games, which I think is going to be pretty helpful.”
