Paul Finebaum: Georgia looks like one of the most dangerous teams in the country after Tennessee win

The question is: is Georgia football back? Paul Finebaum would say yes and even go as far to say the Bulldogs are one of the most dangerous teams in the country.

Beating Tennessee 31-17, Georgia got back on the right track. The team has two losses, but they are in the thick of the College Football Playoff race.

Georgia, being battled tested, gives the Bulldogs the advantage moving forward.

“They remind me a little bit of each other, except that Georgia has had a far more difficult schedule,” Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubelic. “In talking to Kirby Smart Friday night, I am not a betting man, but I have never been more confident of Georgia winning after just sensing, being around him, hearing what he had to say and trying to break the code. I mean, he was extremely confident. He was much different than I’ve seen him in a long time. He loved the position his team was in. 

“And I think the whole thing with the College Football Playoff committee, I’m not saying, you know, Georgia suddenly overcame all the mistakes of the season because of that, but I think they got into the right mindset, and they played a team that is extremely good on one side of the ball and somewhat limited other than maybe at the running back on the other side, and it went pretty much much according to plan.” 

Georgia got into a better spot, compared to Tennessee, which might need some madness to happen to position for the CFP. Two games left means this could get nuts.

“As far as Tennessee, I think they’re in a really bad spot right now,” Finebaum said. “I mean, I think they’ll benefit from chaos, which I think we will get, but that’s what they need. I mean, they lost the wrong game, even though it was predicted going in. Georgia, I think, is in a fantastic position. And I think after Saturday night, they look to me like one of the most dangerous teams in the country.”

Smart hasn’t been shy in touting his team’s strength of schedule. Right now, it’s paying off for Georgia.

“It’s hard because I think teams that play really tough schedules, I think you always reward it,” Smart said prior to the Tennessee game. “It seems to me – this is an analogy that just hit me – in basketball, they always talk about this. They make a big deal about it, but there’s so many teams in the tournament. And the teams that play these tough schedules get rewarded for these really tough schedules. In our case, it seems to be just about wins.

“But we’re in a great situation here because we get to play and we get to go play tomorrow night. We get to play right here in our home schedule and Tennessee gets an opportunity to come play us. So there’s a lot of teams out there hoping this happens and that happens. We get to go play our game. That’s what we need to focus on.”
