Paul Finebaum, Heather Dinich argue potential of Georgia missing College Football Playoff
Paul Finebaum and Heather Dinich aren’t predicting a Georgia loss to LSU in the SEC Championship Game, but chaos could be created if it came to fruition.
Joining the crew on Get Up on Wednesday, Finebaum first stated that he believes the Bulldogs have already punched their ticket to the College Football Playoff regardless.

“Georgia will be in,” Finebaum stated. “They have Georgia Tech this weekend, so we’ll move past that game. I can’t even come up with a scenario. I mean, last year they got blown out by Alabama in the same spot, they were still in. Now again, Alabama was maybe a little higher regarded than LSU is this year with one loss versus two, but I don’t think there’s going to be a debate.
“Georgia can punch a ticket. Then it’s just a matter of where they land in terms of seeding. The first round games are in Atlanta and Phoenix, so they may be deprived of playing in Atlanta with a loss, but that would be about the only penalty I can see.”
While Dinich believes there’s something to be said about USC and the fact that they would end the season with multiple ranked wins and even likely match Georgia’s win over Oregon, she still believes the committee would roll with the Bulldogs.

“The selection committee would at least have a deep dive conversation on Georgia as a loser in the SEC Championship Game, compared to a one-loss USC that just beat three straight ranked opponents,” added Dinich. “We have to remember that in that scenario, Georgia’s best win would be in the season opener against Oregon. USC probably could play Oregon in the Pac-12 Conference Championship Game. Common opponent.
“All those things would factor in, but I would lean towards what Paul is saying, because the selection committee said that Georgia separated themselves from the rest of the country as the No. 1 team.”
Call it SEC bias or not, Georgia has earned the right to be put on a pedestal throughout the season. Still, USC would have a strong case to be put into the College Football Playoff over the Bulldogs if the aforementioned scenario did in fact play out.
