Paul Finebaum says Georgia is 'not fine' with Brock Bowers out for several weeks
Georgia football received some horrendous news Monday morning when doctors determined to that tight end Brock Bowers will need tight-rope surgery for his high ankle sprain, sidelining him for at least a few more weeks.
The loss is immense for a Georgia offense that was really finding itself with Bowers leading the way these last few weeks. Coming into the Vanderbilt game, he had logged three straight 100+ yard games, including a seven-catch, 132-yard outing the week prior vs. Kentucky. Against Auburn the week before that, he was also tremendous, dragging Georgia to victory in the fourth quarter, when most of his eight catches and 157 yards occurred.
Such news is a big deal in the college football and SEC landscape. So, when SEC Network host Paul Finebaum joined Matt Barrie on SportsCenter, one of the first topics of discussion was the Bowers injury.
“Brock Bowers, the school announced he’s going to miss 4-6 weeks with surgery on a high ankle (sprain). So, is Georgia fine or not fine in their quest to three-peat without Bowers?” Barrie asked Finebaum.
He answered: “This is not fine.”
Paul Finebaum went on to explain that it’s Bowers who powers so much of the Bulldog attack offensively, especially in the SEC games he’s played in: “This is the most serious injury they could possibly have, because Brock Bowers is so much of their offense.”

Finebaum then touted Bowers’ leadership and made a bold statement about the Bulldog playmaker.
“He’s the team leader. He has pulled them out of some scrapes so far this year. I think he’s one of the best players in the entire country, Matt. They have some other alternatives like Ladd McConkey but they’re going to struggle without him.”
It’s a good thing McConkey is back and playing good football now that Carson Beck’s favorite target is out for the foreseeable future. He and Rara Thomas, Dominic Lovett and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint are all going to need to step up now, as well as No. 2 tight end Oscar Delp obviously.
Brock Bowers initially suffered the injury in the Vandy game after racing for a gain of 14 yards and out past a block from quarterback Carson Beck, then came up gimpy after being pushed out near the sideline. He took a brief minute to wobble onto the field before dropping to a knee and motioning for trainers to come over.
Bowers was taken to the medical tent and then the locker room shortly after exiting the game with the injury and did not return to the field of play for the remainder of the day.
