Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood 2023 quarterback Dylan Lonergan might be a Penn State legacy, but the four-star signal-caller is drawing all kinds of interest in the SEC country. After tripping to Auburn last weekend and Alabama late last month, Lonergan will be in Athens this weekend to watch No. 1 Georgia host No. 11 Kentucky.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound junior holds nearly two dozens offers, including the nearly the entire SEC. One of the major programs outside the south with interest in him is Penn State. His father, Dan, was a backup quarterback on the Nittany Lions’ 1982 national championship team.

He released a top-12 schools list in early August, and Penn State was joined on it by Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, and South Carolina. Lonergan took a handful of unofficial visits this summer and also made his way to Ohio State in September.

As a sophomore in 2020, he completed 174 of his 268 for more than 2,000 yards and 25 total touchdowns.

Dylan Lonergan is also a baseball prospect

With a 90-plus mph fastball in his arsenal, Lonergan is also a pro baseball prospect. He has interest and offers from a laundry list of college programs. He told On3’s DawgsHQ that much of his football recruitment revolves around baseball.

“Yeah, for me, baseball is in the same level of importance as football,” Lonergan said. “Right now, I’m just looking at the possibility of getting drafted out of high school, but if that doesn’t work out, then I’m just obviously going to try to play both in college.”

The good news is, a number of the schools recruiting him on the gridiron are also doing so on the mound. Whether he’ll actually play both at the college level—or play at in college at all—remains to be seen. But until he’s eligible for the 2023 MLB Draft, he’ll have a list of college football’s elite programs to choose from.
