WATCH: Stetson Bennett makes history in the national title game with monster touchdown throw
Nobody will be as wide open as Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey was on the Bulldogs’ second touchdown. There was not a TCU defender in sight, as quarterback Stetson Bennett put the pass right on the money as well.
Georgia now leads TCU in the national championship 17-7, getting off to a fast overall start. And despite the clock still reading the first quarter, some history has been made.
Bennett has now broken Aaron Murray‘s Georgia single season passing record — which was set during the 2012 season. The Mailman is now closing in on 4,000 yards on the year but the 37-yard touchdown put him over the hump compared to Murray.
You can watch the full play here.
Murray did only get to play in 14 games in 2012, competing in Georgia’s bowl game plus the SEC Championship. Monday night if game No. 15 for Bennett, getting a College Football Playoff semifinal in there as well.

Stetson Bennett continues to add onto Georgia legacy
The story with Bennett and Georgia has been told and told but that does not make it less amazing. From junior college to walk on to national championship. Bennett has been the feel good story of college football over the past two seasons and continues to add onto his legacy.
For a quarterback many in Athens, including his own offensive coordinator, did not want as the starting quarterback — he might go down as the greatest the program has ever seen. Grabbing a record such as the single season passing record only cements that.
Bennett will have plenty of time to add onto his record as well, with over three quarters of football still on the clock. And if they hold onto the lead, you can add another title to the quarterback’s resume as well.
