Rece Davis believes Carson Beck should return to Georgia in 2024
After four seasons in Athens, Carson Beck could end his collegiate career after the postseason run for Georgia and go to the NFL. However, Rece Davis thinks it might be better for all sides if Beck runs it back for another year with the Bulldogs.
Ahead of the SEC Championship in Atlanta on Saturday, Davis spoke with the media. He eventually addressed the trajectory that Beck is on. In his opinion, though, Georgia should do what they can to keep him and Beck should stay for a fifth season in order to get more reps and be the top quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.
“He just kept getting better. And now? Man, he’s a dude,” said Davis. “I mean he’s an NFL quarterback.
“Now, I’ll get ahead of this. Whatever they want to pay him? They should. Carson should stay, in my judgement, because we’ve seen quarterbacks struggle who don’t have a lot of starts,” Davis continued. “Come back, get probably 15 more starts, given Georgia’s talent, under your belt, and you might be QB1 next year.”
Beck spent a lot of time on the sideline behind the likes of JT Daniels and Stetson Bennett. Now, in 2023, he has taken full advantage in his first opportunity as the ‘Dawg’s starter.

In his dozen games this fall, Beck has thrown for nearly 3,500 yards. He has also posted 22 touchdowns and just six picks on a 72.4% completion rate. He’s just outside the top-five nationally in completion rate while also being No. 10 in the country in passing yards.
Most importantly, he has maintained the winning ways for Georgia as he has helped their streak to reach 29 victories in a row. Now, he’ll look to continue that pace with a second consecutive conference title as well as a third straight national title in the College Football Playoff.
Beck may very well be ready to go pro and leave the job to a new quarterback for the Bulldogs. Still, considering how good he has been for them this season, Davis wouldn’t say no to watching another season of Beck between the hedges.
“I just think he has been terrific for them,” said Davis. “He has put up numbers. I know he’s probably not in the Heisman race this year. But he has put up numbers that are certainly worthy of being evaluated. He’s a dude and I think he has been terrific for them.”
