According to Jordan Hill of Dawgs247, Georgia defensive backs coach Donte Williams has received a promotion. Williams will serve as the program’s associate head coach moving forward. He is viewed as a “valued” member of the staff by head coach Kirby Smart.

“Georgia has promoted defensive backs coach Donte Williams to associate head coach, per the team’s updated staff directory,” Hill said via X. “Williams is gearing up for his second season in Athens and has quickly become a valued and respected part of Kirby Smart’s staff.”

Williams just wrapped up his first season in Athens, previously working for USC. Most of his career has been spent on the West Coast, dating back to his first job in 2007 at Los Angeles Harbor, a JUCO. Four seasons were spent with the Trojans, primarily under Lincoln Riley.

Oregon was another power conference school Williams worked for. In 2018 and 2019, he was the Ducks’ cornerbacks coach. Mario Cristobal, now the Miami head coach, was in charge during Williams’ stint in Eugene.

Some of college football’s biggest-named head coaches have employed Williams over the years. Georgia continues the climb for Williams, officially adding the associate head coach tag to his title to accompany defensive backs coach.

Williams just saw two defensive backs hear their names called during the 2025 NFL Draft. Safety Malachi Starks was the first, going No. 27 overall to the Baltimore Ravens. Dan Jackson had to wait until late Saturday but the Detroit Lions took him in the seventh round.

Plenty more are on their way too. Between how Georgia recruits and the coaching on Williams, the Bulldgos are not slowing down anytime soon.

Georgia lands NCAA transfer portal commitment from offensive lineman

Former UCF offensive lineman Waltclaire Flynn Jr. committed to Georgia out of the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He’ll have four years of eligibility left.

Flynn Jr. spent just one season at UCF before deciding to transfer. The Georgia native will now go closer to home and play for the Bulldogs.

As a member of the Class of 2024, Flynn Jr. was a three-star recruit out of Loganville (Ga.) Grayson, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 53 overall prospect in the state, the No. 36 interior lineman in the class and the No. 458 overall prospect in the class.
