The Georgia Bulldogs are adding another coach to its football staff ahead of next season. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, Georgia is adding Rutgers defensive backs Fran Brown coach to the coaching staff.
“Georgia is set to hire Rutgers’ Fran Brown as a defensive backs coach, sources tell @on3sports,” Zenitz tweeted. “First reported by @petethamel. Brown, who was previously a co-DC at Temple, ranked as one of the top recruiters in the Big Ten for the 2022 cycle.”
Brown played college football at Western Carolina from 2003-2006. He played in the NFL from 2007-2008. After his playing career, he began his coaching career. Since 2010, Brown has held multiple positions, including defensive backs coach, assistant head coach, and co-defensive coordinator. He has worked at Temple, Baylor, and Rutgers at the collegiate level.
Brown is known as a strong recruiter. He interviewed for the open Temple head coaching job after the 2018 season, but he was passed over twice, with the Owls hiring Manny Diaz and then Rod Carey once Diaz took the Miami job 17 days after his hiring.

More on Brown, Georgia
Last season, Rutgers ranked in the bottom third of the Big Ten by allowing 229.2 passing yards per game. The Scarlet Knights also allowed 24.6 points and 391.6 total yards per game.
Georgia, on the other hand, had great success on defense during the 2021 season. The Bulldogs led the SEC by allowing just 253.9 yards per game, 172.2 passing yards, 81.7 rushing yards and 9.5 points per game. Alabama was the closest team to Georgia in terms of total yards allowed per game, but the Crimson Tide were more than 50 yards behind the Bulldogs with 306.2.
Georgia’s defense led the nation with 9.5 points allowed per game, with Clemson ranking second with 15. The Bulldogs defense was viewed as one of the best in the history of college football throughout the year. But the unit lost defensive coordinator Dan Lanning, who was hired as Oregon’s next head coach. Now, Brown comes to Georgia looking to help an already impressive unit get better. The Bulldogs will lose some key pieces to the NFL Draft, but Georgia still undoubtedly has solid pieces in place as the team looks to repeat as national champions in 2022.
