There’s a certain level of trust required between a quarterback and a center, and that’s definitely the case with Sedrick Van Pran and Carson Beck. Beck took over as the starting quarterback for Georgia this season, and the transition has been seamless for Van Pran thanks to the connection they’ve built.

Even though Van Pran spent the past two seasons snapping the ball to Stetson Bennett, he always had a great off the field relationship with Beck. The two were both members of the 2020 class and have formed a friendship over the past four years.

Speaking with On3‘s Andy Staples on Tuesday, the Bulldogs center revealed just how much trust he has in his quarterback.

“It’s meticulous in the way that coach (Kirby) Smart runs his program,” he said. “I think that there is a certain level that he runs his program to help guys cultivate relationships and connections. A lot of people don’t know, when we moved into our new facility, Carson’s locker is right across from mine. It’s been that way for the past two-and-a-half, three years, considering this is a guy that I came in with.

“…He gave me my first haircut for my first date with my girlfriend.”

At that revelation, Staples had to follow up for more. It says a lot about the pair’s relationship off the field, as you don’t just let anyone cut your hair for a first date, even if they are a close friend.

However, from getting to know Beck over the years, Van Pran had no doubt that he would do a quality job. With Staples surprised that the offensive lineman put so much faith in his teammate’s abilities, Van Pran explained why.

“Yes I did trust him with that,” he said. “Carson’s a great barber. He does a tremendous job with cutting hair. So that’s always been my guy. We may not have played together, but that was definitely a person I was talking to every day.”

That trust has enabled the pair of work great together this season in getting the Bulldogs off to a 7-0 start. In fact, when Beck fumbled the ball this past week in a game against Vanderbilt, it was Van Pran who had his back.

The center not only pounced on the ball for the recovery, but also rumbled his way to a first down.

It goes to show that the two are there for each other whether in-game or not. As for the haircut that Beck gave, it ended up working out pretty well for Van Pran in the long run.

“The date went perfect and we’re still together to this day,” he said. “I guess he worked some magic for me.”

The two will continue to work together to lead the Bulldogs to another win as Georgia kicks off against Florida at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in Jacksonville.
