Much has been made about the doubters Stetson Bennett had during his time at Georgia as he went from walk-on to Heisman Trophy finalist. Many have apologized, including ESPN host and SportsCenter anchor Elle Duncan.

Duncan joined The Paul Finebaum Show Wednesday and offered an apology to Bennett for doubting him. She said her moment of clarity came during the Peach Bowl last week against Ohio State when Bennett had to lead Georgia on a game-winning drive — something she didn’t think he could necessarily do last year when the Bulldogs won the national championship.

That’s why she asked for forgiveness.

“Let me just say, a little part of that comes I think from last year, right? Which is sort of narcissistic, but if I am, it felt like Georgia didn’t believe in Stetson last year,” Duncan said. “I mean, they didn’t. He didn’t start off the year as the starter. But the issue is I held on to that and I clung onto that instead of the evidence that was in front of me, which is that yes, Georgia had a historic defense, but that Stetson was a big part of that. I think last week while everyone was sort of saying, ‘Oh, Stetson didn’t have, like, his best game in the Peach Bowl,’ I actually felt quite differently.

“I felt like he did exactly what I was so critical of him in August for. He stepped up … exactly when his team needed him. I did not think Stetson Bennett was capable of putting the team on his back and winning it for them. I thought he could manage, that he could play complementary, but I didn’t think he could win it for them. And he did. He had a huge drive. The missed field goal helped. So I feel stupid. It was a horrible take, it was a bad take, and I apologize.”

Duncan said she plans on traveling to Los Angeles for the game and had a message for the Georgia faithful. She hopes the fans accept her apology and avoid trolling her even more about her thoughts on Bennett.

After all, she’s heard about it from her mom all season long.

“I’m asking Dawg Nation to stop flaming me, to stop trolling me,” Duncan said. “I get it. I’m falling on the sword. My own mother’s been trolling me for six months. We get it. We now need to come together. When I see you in L.A., I don’t want to hear about what I did with Stetson Bennett. I want to move on, and mostly I want to move on because, again, I’m sort of narcissistic.”
