Stephen A. Smith has become an icon in the sports world, and he has a ton of fans in Kirby Smart and the back-to-back kings of the college football world in the Georgia Bulldogs.

While Smith has been a noted backer of the Alabama Crimson Tide, that didn’t stop the love-fest when Smart joined ESPN’s First Take on Thursday. The leader of the Bulldogs had nothing but complimentary things to say about Smith, adding that he believes the ESPN host is the best at what he does, and that his players love to watch him.

“He’s one of the best at what he does,” Smart stated, speaking of Smith. “Those are usually the hardest to motivate. Some of my players would have some challenges for him because we have contests at our team meetings to see who can be the most like Stephen A. in a conversation and debate. Our players know exactly who he is, they love watching him and he’s done a tremendous job.

“I don’t know that I have any words to coach him up. Besides, he may grill me after I get off. He gets the last word so I’m going to hold off from doing that.”

For Smart’s kind words, Smith was touched, and even made a promise to come down to Athens and debate with the best of the best on the Georgia football team.

“What you just told me about those players touched my heart so much,” responded Smith. “I’m going to pay a visit to the football team this year. I’m going to come down to Athens, Georgia. … I’m going to come there and critique a debate amongst the best Georgia football players and I will decide who wins. Whoever wins can come on here and debate me.”

It remains to be seen which members of the Bulldogs are the top at debating, but it would be awesome to see any of them follow in their coach’s footsteps and make an appearance on First Take. Regardless, Georgia fans can chalk up Smith’s love for Georgia as another victory over the Crimson Tide, turning one of their biggest supporters in the national media into a Smart stan.

One thing that isn’t up for debate is Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs will be roaring and ready to go come time to defend their title once again, and most won’t be betting against them.
