Stetson Bennett details the moments prior to Kelee Ringo's pick-six, his reaction
Kelee Ringo‘s pick-six in the national championship game on Monday night will go down as arguably the most memorable play of this college football season. The play sealed Georgia’s championship, and resulted in some heartfelt and iconic reactions from head coach Kirby Smart, quarterback Stetson Bennett, and many others.
After the game, Bennett was asked about the iconic moment, which led to a very emotional response from him on the sidelines with the victory all but secured.
Prior to Ringo’s heroic play, Bennett was getting the offense prepared to go back out and score again.
“My moment was – so we go down, we score a touchdown,” Bennett said when asked what his favorite moment from the championship was. “We get the ball back. We go down. We’re up by eight. They get the ball back, and I’m walking on the sideline.
“I’m telling everybody on the offense, everybody’s pumped up. We just scored. Threw a touchdown to Brock. Everybody’s pumped up, you know? And I’m telling everybody, hey, listen, be ready for two-minute drive to win the national championship. Listen, think about the numbers. Think about everything that you have to do.”
At the time, Georgia led Alabama 26-18 with time dwindling, and Alabama was driving down the field. But Ringo came up with the big interception, and the play will forever be remembered by Bennett.
“And then Kelee catches the pick and it just hit me,” he said. “And as soon as – because I’m watching on the big screen; I can’t see. I’m not that tall. I’m not looking on the field, I’m looking on the big screen. And Kelee catches the pick.”

Bennett: “I can’t describe the feeling” of Ringo’s championship-sealing play
Not long before Ringo’s interception, Bennett lost a fumble with Georgia leading 13-12. Alabama went down to score on the ensuing possession, taking an 18-13 lead. Georgia responded with two consecutive touchdowns to take the 26-18 lead, but Bennett was still looking to solidify the victory.
When Ringo made the play, Bennett broke down on the sidelines, realizing that all of his hard work had paid off, and that he is going to win the national championship.
“And it just – I mean, just everything, I mean, I can’t describe the feeling,” said Bennett. “I tried not to put, you know, the Bulldog Nation on my shoulders because I can’t carry that weight. But when Kelee caught that pick – and I didn’t even see him score the touchdown. I just saw him catch the pick – it just lifted off my shoulders. I just started crying. The emotions just came over me. It was probably a little bit pre– it was probably a little too early because football is crazy.
“But that was when it all hit me, the wave of emotion. I can’t describe it. I wasn’t expecting it. It caught me off guard. But that was when it set in.”
