Stetson Bennett discussing his meeting with Tampa Bay Buccaneers at NFL Combine
Stetson Bennett is one of the more intriguing prospects at the 2023 NFL Combine, but not because he’s going to be a first-round pick or likely to start right away on a QB-needy team. It’s more about the diminutive stature and recent public intoxication arrest that make him a perplexing prospect, despite being at the helm for back-to-back national championships at Georgia.
One team, it seems, is intent on seeing a clearer picture of what they might get with Bennett: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And with Tom Brady retired and the only other quarterback on the roster being Kyle Trask, the Buccaneers are very much in need of a quarterback.
“Met with them, thought it went pretty well. They asked me some questions, wondering about the incident, answered them,” Bennett said. “Asked me about football, asked me about life, tried to figure out who I was. I thought it went well.”
Bennett and the rest of the quarterbacks will go through on the field drills and athletic testing throughout the remainder of the combine, with the on-field drills taking place on Saturday. Teams will surely be keeping a close eye on the Georgia signal caller.

As Bennett explained, he recognizes that he made a mistake that led to the arrest.
“It was a mistake that everybody is aware of,” Stetson Bennett said. “I understand why that can’t happen. I’ve talked to coaches about it, talked to GMs.”
“Apologized to my family. That’s who I felt the worst about. Felt like I let them down because no matter where I go now, and even without all this, I’ve got an obligation. I’m the fourth. Can’t do that if your last name is Bennett and I know better.”
According to the report, which was obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald, Stetson Bennett attempted to hide behind a brick wall. This, possibly, could have been to avoid the police officer’s attention.
The report also said that Bennett was taken to a sobering center and “if not arrested, could have potentially become a victim of a crime.”
