Stetson Bennett releases first comments on public intoxication arrest in Dallas: 'It was a mistake'
In January, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett was arrested for public intoxication while he was in Dallas. Now, he has made his first public comments since that arrest.
As Bennett explained, he recognizes that he made a mistake that led to the arrest.
“It was a mistake that everybody is aware of,” Stetson Bennett said. “I understand why that can’t happen. I’ve talked to coaches about it, talked to GMs.”
“Apologized to my family. That’s who I felt the worst about. Felt like I let them down because no matter where I go now, and even without all this, I’ve got an obligation. I’m the fourth. Can’t do that if your last name is Bennett and I know better.”
According to the report, which was obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald, Stetson Bennett attempted to hide behind a brick wall. This, possibly, could have been to avoid the police officer’s attention.
The report also said that Bennett was taken to a sobering center and “if not arrested, could have potentially become a victim of a crime.”

RGIII predicts a Stetson Bennett-Todd Monken reunion
Stetson Bennett is an interesting prospect. Often overlooked, Bennett only ever won at Georgia and fought to earn respect at the college level. So, where does he fit into the NFL?
Former quarterback and current analyst Robert Griffin III thinks that reuniting with offensive coordinator Todd Monken with the Baltimore Ravens makes a lot of sense.
“My bold prediction is that the Baltimore Ravens select Stetson Bennett in the NFL Draft. Lamar Jackson is unsure if he is going to be there in the offseason with the franchise tag,” Griffin said.
