Stetson Bennett had an eventful press conference on Tuesday afternoon, talking everything from flip phones to armadillos with the media after spring practice. He shared one strange story about a fan who needed some advice on a strange investment.

During his press conference, Stetson Bennett revealed that someone sent him a direct message on Instagram, asking whether he should spend $10,000 on a three-striped armadillo. Georgia‘s national championship quarterback offered the best advice he could.

“I don’t know how much money you’ve got, but I want you to buy it, because that’s awesome,” Bennett recalled telling him, via The Athletic’s Seth Emerson.

While Bennett did not reveal whether the fan ended up spending the money, it did lead to a deep dive on the value of an armadillo.

Although many fans in the Georgia area – and the southern United States in general – have likely run across an armadillo on the side of the road somewhere, it likely was not worth $10,000 to pick up. The most likely sighting in the region would be a nine-banded armadillo, which is distinguished by the stripes on their back and inability to curl fully into a ball like their three-banded counterparts.

Those three-banded armadillos are native to South America, primarily in Brazil, but also across Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay. The more exotic version of the animal could hold special value to this Georgia fan, but it will come with additional expenses.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division, state regulations prohibit the holding of live armadillos without a proper permit or license. This regulation applies to all armadillos “regardless of its origin or morphology.”

Stetson Bennett throws first pitch

As the Georgia Bulldogs started their baseball season off, quarterback Stetson Bennett IV threw out the first pitch of the game. The national champion quarterback helped start things off the right way, throwing the first pitch with some great speed and just below the strike zone.

Bennett’s presence may have been a boost to his school, but his biggest impact could be yet to come in the 2022 football season. With Bennett’s return for the Bulldogs and his championship-winning experience, Georgia will look to become the first team to repeat as champions in the College Football Playoff era. Additionally, he has the chance to become the first starting quarterback since Alabama’s A.J. McCarron in the 2011 and 2012 seasons to win multiple national championships as the starting quarterback.
