Stetson Bennett shares what was said, meaning behind curtain call with Kirby Smart
Stetson Bennett solidified himself as the greatest quarterback in Georgia Bulldogs‘ history after obliterating TCU 65-7 to win back-to-back national championships in his final two years of college football.
Words couldn’t do justice for the feelings that were going through his mind as the final moments ticked off the 2022-2023 college football season, but he tried his best to describe what it meant to bring another title to Athens before his career ended. He was almost speechless
“Champions of the whole damn world, I don’t know,” Bennett said after the win. “I’m just trying to see everybody for the last time, hug everybody, trying not to cry.”
The former walk-on completed the national title game completing 18-of-24 passes for 304 yards and six total touchdowns. His favorite targets, TE Brock Bowers and WR Ladd McConkey combined for 240 of Bennett’s yards, including three of his four toucjdown passes.

Bennett was on his A-game from the opening drive. In the first half alone, Bennett threw for two touchdowns, ran for two more and out-gained the TCU offense with his arm alone 213-121. He poured on for two more touchdown passes in the third quarter, mounting a 52-7 lead over the Horned Frogs before receiving a standing ovation while being subbed out early in the fourth quarter.
He was embraced by head coach Kirby Smart before he reached the sideline.
“That does not happen with Coach Smart, I can tell you that. That was special. I’ll remember that for the rest of my life,” he said about the ovation and the embrace by Smart. “He just told me that the loved me – just the journey we’ve been through together.”
The game was over from the start, and it capped off an undefeated 15-0 season for Georgia. As Bennett rides off into the sunset, there’s no doubt that Georgia is the new standard of college football.
