Kirby Smart shares goals for spring practice, how Georgia gets new assistants up to speed

This year will mark Tate Ratledge’s third as a podcast co-host on Real Talk. The stalwart Georgia lineman has had plenty of teammates on the show to talk about football and, simply, have some casual conversations.

In such a laid-back environment, there are times Ratledge’s guests say something that goes viral. That was the case with one of his newest teammates, when Trevor Etienne spoke about his decision to transfer from Florida to Georgia.

Ratledge said the crew usually tries to double check what’s said on the show, given its pre-taped nature. However, those quotes slipped through the cracks and took off. He didn’t sound too worried about it, though, adding it’s not the first time he’s had an episode go viral.

In fact, he didn’t think Etienne’s comments reached as far as some in the past.

“Some things are said that we’re like, ‘Okay, that needs to be taken out,'” Ratledge said. “But I guess there was something we didn’t catch right away. It ended up going big. But I don’t think it got too big as some of the other stuff has that should’ve probably been taken out. But it is what it is.”

Tate Ratledge has a new podcast co-host this season

Ratledge had the opportunity to take his talents to the NFL this year, but opted to run it back at Georgia once again. He was an staple of the Bulldogs’ offensive line as they went 13-1 a season ago and won the Orange Bowl.

Ratledge’s co-host, however, made a different decision. Zion Logue is off to the NFL Draft, meaning he found himself in need of a new co-host once again. The show started with Ryland Goede in the co-pilot’s chair in 2022, and Logue took over last year.

That opened the door for Brett Thorson to come in and join the podcast. The junior punter and Australia native showcased his sense of humor when Carson Beck decided to return to Georgia – likely taking away opportunities for punts.

Ratledge said that translates to the podcast, and he’s having fun adjusting to another new partner.

“It’s three different personalities, so it’s been pretty cool to see the transition of how it’s went throughout the years,” Ratledge said. “Now with Brett, Brett’s hilarious. Brett has a great personality. So it’s a lot of fun to do it with him.”

Ratledge and the Bulldogs are kicking off spring ball to get ready for the 2024 season. Tuesday marked their first practice, and it will run through the annual G-Day spring game on April 13.
