When Shone Washington visited Georgia for the first time in June, he didn’t know a lot about the Bulldogs. The interest was there, but the 6-foot-4, 309-pound defensive lineman out of New Orleans Warren Easton, but it took some time for Georgia to grow on him.

After working out with defensive line coach Tray Scott and meeting Kirby Smart in June, Washington returned for a second visit in July. That is when things started to click between the two.

“On that second visit, I got a real feel for Georgia, the players, the coaches, and that is when I started to really think about Georgia,” Washington said.

“Georgia offered me in the spring, they recruited me hard from the start, and that second visit showed me a lot. Seeing what Georgia was about, seeing that standard, and getting to know the coaches had me thinking about them a lot.”

It came down to Georgia and Florida for the three-star defensive lineman. What Georgia does, and how they do it, set the No. 1 team in the country apart.

“I want to be a part of the Georgia standard. They play as a team. They play together. Georgia flies to the ball, they play hard for each other, and they get the job done for each other.

“The way the coaches are, how Georgia develops players, and the standard at Georgia is why I picked them.”

Shone Washington can’t wait to get started at Georgia

Since visiting Athens officially a few weeks ago, Georgia has been on Washington’s mind. It was his third visit and that is when he made his decision.

“I actually committed to coach Smart and coach Scott on the Sunday of my official visit,” Washington said. “I knew on my visit that Georgia was the school.

“Coach Smart and I were talking in his office and told him that it was time for me to close it down. He was excited, coach Scott was hype about it, and we started talking about it was time to get there and compete.

“I can’t wait to get there in January.”

Washington plans to sign with Georgia on December 15, then enroll early in January. He is excited about what lies ahead in Athens.

“Getting to play for Georgia, coach Smart, and coach Scott is exciting. Seeing what Georgia is doing, what they are about, and how they play really has me ready.

“Coach Scott is a great coach and I get to come in and work with him. The defense is going to be great, the 2022 class is tops, and I get to play with teammates that play hard and play together.

“Georgia’s standard is to win every game and we are going to get that National Championship.”
