With the 2023 NFL Draft behind us, some early attention has been shown to the 2024 edition. Detroit will play host for the first time in its history, as the league continues to travel across the country. Plenty of prospects are already standing out and big boards are forming. Plenty will change over the next 12 months but the TE1 spot is most likely safe.

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers will keep the spot locked down, widely being considered the best tight end in college football. Fox’s Joel Klatt explained what makes him such a special player, ranking him fourth overall in his 2024 NFL Draft board. Some team will have a franchise-changing caliber tight end this time next year.

“Dude is an absolute monster,” Klatt said. “Love Brock Bowers. He is basically a wide receiver in a tight end’s body that can also play running back. He’s outstanding. You can hand him the ball, throw him the ball. When he gets his hands on the ball after the catch, he’s dynamic. He’s got great speed, great hands. He’s outstanding. He would have been the top tight end in this draft.”

With Klatt ranking Bowers fourth, he would be the second tight end in the past four drafts to be selected No. 4 overall. Florida‘s Kyle Pitts would share the honor with Bowers of being the highest-drafted tight end since 2000.

As usual, quarterbacks are going to dominate at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft. Bowers will have a serious chance at being the first non-QB selected next April.

Brock Bowers proving to be special tight end prospect

Coming out of high school, Bowers was ranked as the No. 1 tight end in the 2021 recruiting class and instantly made an impact in Athens. Bowers has 119 receptions for 1,824 yards and 20 touchdowns during his two seasons. An incredible stat line heading into your junior year and especially at a program like Georgia.

Bowers performed well enough during the 2022 season to win the John Mackey Award. Iowa‘s Sam LaPorta and Michael Mayer of Notre Dame — who both heard their names called this past weekend in Kansas City — were the other two finalists. However, neither were first-round picks.

Georgia will be breaking in a new quarterback this season but you can probably guess who his top target is going to be. It’s hard to think Bowers has the opportunity to improve his draft stock anymore but thinking against the idea would be a poor call.
