Kirby Smart knows how to connect to his players and it shows in the recruiting rankings. Few programs have brought in more talent than Georgia since Smart took over in 2016. One of the best is Brock Bowers, who is fresh off being named the Mackey Award for being the nation’s top tight end.

From a football perspective, we know the Bowers and Smart duo is incredible. Off the field, the two seem to have a good relationship as well. Bowers described playing for Smart as “interesting”, citing the constant energy in the Georgia locker room.

“It’s always interesting,” Bowers said. “He always brings a bunch of energy and always has some new catchphrase to say every day. So, he keeps it interesting for us.”

Bowers and Smart are clearly having fun together this season, earning another playoff appearance. A ring has already been added to the locker, defeating LSU in the SEC Championship on Saturday. When winning comes with ease, letting your personality show becomes easier.

Next up for the two is a tough test against Ohio State, where Smart will find a new way to motivate his Georgia team. Maybe a new catchphrase will come to fruition for a highly intense College Football Playoff matchup.

Brock Bowers admits Georgia wanted to face Alabama in 2022

Even when Alabama isn’t atop the college football world, players and programs across the country give the Crimson Tide their due respect. A win over Alabama is meaningful, regardless of their record. Georgia tight end Brock Bowers admitted as much during an appearance on ‘The A Team’ earlier this week.

Bowers says Georgia would have liked to face the Tide at some point this season. It didn’t take away from their season as the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff but, considering the brand of Alabama, a win over Nick Saban’s team in the SEC Championship or in the postseason would’ve been a welcome addition according to Bowers.

“I feel like everyone always kind of feels like that, to put themselves against Alabama. We just didn’t get the shot this year,” Bowers said. “Maybe next year.”

Georgia vs. Alabama has become the new rivalry in the SEC simply because of their combined dominance in the postseason. They’ve met in two SEC Championship and College Football Playoffs since 2018. The connections between Saban and Kirby Smart add another layer to what is always a high-level matchup on the field.
