There might not be a better position group for Georgia than tight end. Brock Bowers is the star of the show but Darnell Washington is just as big of a weapon for the Bulldogs. The duo has been nearly unstoppable throughout SEC play and is looking to do the same against Ohio State in the Peach Bowl.
However, Washington is not currently in the game. Washington limped off the field after quarterback Stetson Bennett threw an interception. He was then shown by the ESPN broadcast walking into the locker room, heavily limping alongside Georgia staffers.
Georgia has now ruled Washington out but added a “for now” stipulation on there. So as he makes his way into the locker room, there is no real official update on where the tight end stands. The left ankle is Washington’s problem, explaining the limp both on the field and in the tunnel.
If Washington truly cannot continue, it’s a massive loss for the Bulldogs. True freshman Oscar Delp is out there getting some snaps in his place, previously being ranked the No. 2 tight end in the 2022 recruiting class. Delp has already made an impact, getting a key block for quarterback Stetson Bennett on a rushing touchdown.
Washington has been a force in all 13 games this season, making 26 receptions from a stat sheet perspective. Those have gone for 417 yards and two touchdowns. However, Washington’s 6-7, 260+ pound frame is where the Bulldogs get the most out of him, especially in the run game.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett spent time in medical tent
While Georiga may want their identity to be running the ball, the entire offensive system depends on the play of Bennett. However, he seems to be having a foot problem early in the Peach Bowl against Ohio State.
ESPN sideline reporter Laura Rutledge revealed Bennett has spent time in the medical tent, with trainers looking at his right foot. She said the problem does not look “too serious” but said it’s something to monitor moving forward.
“Stetson Bennett went into the medical tent,” Rutledge said. “Athletic trainers took his right shoe off. He taped that foot and then put that shoe back on. And he’s had a long layoff here on the sideline. He’s taken that shoe off a couple of times. It doesn’t seem to be too serious.”
While giving the report, ESPN showed shots of Bennett on the sideline. He was putting ice in the area, hoping to give some short-term relief.
