Tim Tebow calls out Georgia WRs 'to step up their game,' help Carson Beck vs. Florida
Georgia quarterback Carson Beck hasn’t quite looked like himself this season, even admitting to media that there are areas of his game that he needs to improve following his performance against Texas. But former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow believes all the blame should not fall on the shoulders of the Bulldogs’ signal caller, and rather rests with his receivers.
Tebow spoke about Beck’s season and upcoming rivalry game against the Gators this weekend in Jacksonville, Beck’s hometown where he’ll be able to shine with more help from his supporting cast.
“I think he needs more help to be honest,” Tebow said Friday on SportsCenter. “I think that was Carson stepping up and taking ownership for honestly a lot of other people that need to step up their game. And I really believe that’s the receiver position, they got to show up and they got to help him.
“Let’s remember, Carson is someone that’s one of the most accurate guys in the country. Carson is someone that has been picking defenses apart with reading them. This is a kid with a lot of experience, and oh by the way, he’s from Jacksonville. Mandarin High School just down the road,” Tebow added while onsite in Jacksonville. “So don’t think that this game doesn’t mean the world to him, he grew up a die hard Gator fan and now he’s getting to play this game. And what a special way to seal his legacy, getting a win in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida and pushing his team into the College Football Playoff.”
After ranking fourth in the FBS in completion percentage as one of the most efficient passers in the country last season, Beck’s production has taken a dip this year. He’s completed just 66% of his passes this season for 1,993 yards, 15 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. That includes seven total turnovers between Georgia’s two biggest games of the season against Texas and Alabama.

Two of Beck’s top weapons from last season, Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey, now play on Sundays after declaring for the NFL Draft earlier this year. Meanwhile, Beck opted to return to Georgia for a final season where he still has the chance to not just play better, but lead the Bulldogs to a deep postseason run.
“This is a kid that probably would have gone into the first round, second round last year in the NFL Draft. But he wanted, decided to come back. I think NIL helped with that, but also because he loves college football,” Tebow explained. “He grew up a college football fan, he loves this rivalry, me and him have spoke about this game a bunch.
“He loves it, it means so much, he’s going to have so many family members here. So let’s not just think he’s thinking about the next level in the NFL and the draft. No, no, no, he wants to leave his legacy on this field in his hometown.”
Beck threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns last season in a 43-20 win over the Gators. It’s a performance he’ll look to replicate this Saturday in a game where Georgia’s offense as a whole would surely love to show some growth coming off of their bye week.
