Tim Tebow opens up on Carson Beck transfer decision: He's out to 'prove himself a little bit'
The news that Carson Beck planned to enter the NCAA transfer portal caught the college football world by storm on Thursday afternoon, leaving even analysts without an immediate reaction in some cases. Like Tim Tebow.
Tebow joined the set of the Paul Finebaum Show and was immediately ambushed by the show’s host, with Finebaum wondering what Tebow made of the news.
“I literally just heard that as I was walking in right now, so still trying to I think understand and comprehend it,” Tebow said. “It’d be interesting to figure out where he goes and the reasons behind it. But he was one of my favorite players to watch this year, because when the moments were at their biggest he would continue to fight, even when it looked bleak.”
The former Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner probably has a better pulse on Carson Beck than most, coming out of a similar area in high school himself. Then he’s had a front row seat to Beck’s college career.
Though some were down on Beck based on his 2024 performance — which included an exit in the College Football Playoff semifinals and a career-high 12 interceptions from Beck — Tebow was not.
“He’s someone that I think is a lot better than the credit he gets from people,” Tebow said. “Also remember, and I hate speaking negative about their team, but they had the most drops in college football by far. It’d be interesting to hear the whys.”
Tebow did note again that Carson Beck simply didn’t have the same support in his skill position players as he had a year ago.

“It’s really tough, and to fight through that, to fight through receivers not making the plays that you hope they would make, especially when you become accustomed to there at Georgia and with the tight ends and receivers,” Tebow said. “Losing Brock (Bowers), losing Ladd (McConkey), some really good players. Just look at the NFL right now and how much they’re dominating. So I think that played into it.”
In any case, there are a few early front-runners emerging for Carson Beck and his services. They are Miami, Ohio State and Texas Tech.
But other schools are also likely to enter the mix in the coming days. Tebow thinks there’s a lot to like about the quarterback transfer, who will be one of the top targets on the market.
“I think one of the things that you have to look back and say that he did extremely well was his fight,” Tebow said. “Look at the fight to get them back in the game against Georgia Tech. Look at the fight when they were down against Tennessee. Look at the fight when they were down against Florida.
“This is a young man that I think’s got a lot of fight in him. And that’s why it’s interesting to hear the why. I wonder if it’s to go somewhere else to prove himself a little bit.”
