Georgia running back Trevor Etienne was arrested in Athens Sunday morning, On3 and DawgsHQ’s Palmer Thombs reported. He is facing multiple misdemeanor charges related to driving.

Etienne was booked at 4:35 a.m. local time on four charges – driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and affixing materials that reduce the visibility from windows and/or windshield. He posted a $1,883 bond and was released less than an hour later, at 5:27 a.m.

Etienne is gearing up for his first season at Georgia after transferring from Florida. He arrived in Athens as a highly touted transfer portal addition for the Bulldogs, and he will bolster a running game that is losing Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton to the 2024 NFL Draft. Those two combined for 1,670 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns a season ago, meaning the Bulldogs had to find a way to replace that production.

Last season, Etienne – brother of Travis Etienne – had a career-high 753 yards and eight touchdowns to serve as a key piece of the Florida running game. After entering the transfer portal, he came in as the No. 19 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

Kirby Smart: Trevor Etienne ‘enjoying the competition’ at Georgia

After he committed to UGA, Etienne joined Tate Ratledge on Real Talk to talk about why he chose to leave UF and take his talents to UGA. He ran for more than 1,400 yards in Gainesville, but he decided he wanted to go somewhere to compete for a national championship.

Etienne also finished behind Montrell Johnson in rushing yards both of his years at Florida, and he saw an opportunity with Georgia to become the top running back on the depth chart.

So far, it seems like Etienne is fitting in well with his new team, based on Kirby Smart’s comments this week.

“Running back is one of the positions that you can pick up really quickly. There are similarities between our offense and (Florida). A lot of the same runs, a lot of the same words in some cases. He has not struggled to transition in that part,” Smart said, via DawgsHQ. “Getting comfortable in the offense, there are nuances. I have met with him about it. There are differences in the way we do things offensively that he is picking up on. He is very bright. That is not going to be a problem for him. There have been some mistakes and things, but nothing that can’t be corrected.

“In terms of his efforts and practice habits, we have encouraged him to give great effort, run the ball, pass the last defender. He is a sponge. He has absorbed that. He has enjoyed getting pushed. He is enjoying the competition of that room because there are guys he is competing with within that room. I am very pleased with where he is and hope that he will continue the trajectory he is on.”
