Georgia has released a statement in light of Trevor Etienne’s arrest. He was booked early Sunday morning on four misdemeanor charges related to driving.

“We are aware of the charges and are currently in the process of gathering additional information,” said Steven Drummond, Georgia executive associate AD for strategic communications, in a statement to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg. “This is a pending legal matter and we will not have further comment at this time.”

Etienne was booked at 4:35 a.m. local time on four charges – driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and affixing materials that reduce the visibility from windows and/or windshield. He posted a $1,883 bond and was released less than an hour later, at 5:27 a.m.

Etienne is coming off his most productive season at Florida, totaling a career-high 753 yards and eight touchdowns to serve as a key piece of the Gators running game. After the season, though, he entered the transfer portal and made his way Athens. Now, he’ll try to help replace the production of the NFL Draft-bound Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards.

After entering the transfer portal, Etienne came in as the No. 19 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

After he committed to UGA, Etienne joined Tate Ratledge on Real Talk to talk about why he chose to leave UF and take his talents to UGA. He ran for more than 1,400 yards in Gainesville, but he decided he wanted to go somewhere to compete for a national championship.

Etienne also finished behind Montrell Johnson in rushing yards both of his years at Florida, and he saw an opportunity with Georgia to become the top running back on the depth chart.

“For me, it was like, does the good outweigh the bad?” Etienne said. “I’ve been with Florida for two years. I went through that whole process of rebuilding, it’s kind of still rebuilding. I felt like there was a lot of uncertainty, so like, a lot of questions were unanswered. There’s a lot of unknown going on. I felt like, I can stay here and do what I’ve been doing for another year or two, or bet on myself and take a chance somewhere else.”

To UGA quarterback Carson Beck, having a running back of Trevor Etienne’s caliber is huge for the offense.

“It always helps to have a good running back where you feel comfortable turning your back to the defense and handing it off,” Beck said. “Obviously we saw what he was able to do at Florida. We’re really happy to have him, he’s been working really hard and we’re excited to see what he can do.”
