Trevor Etienne walked into Saturday’s rivalry game against Florida with a ton of emotion, going up against his former team. Unfortunately, the now-Georgia running back left the game due to an injury and has not returned. Taking a shot to the ribs has been enough to keep Etienne out of the game.

“Kirby Smart told me at the half that Trevor Etienne was going to try to play in the second half,” ESPN’s Holly Rowe said in an update. “I have not seen him come in for a single rep. He’s got a rib injury and just keep in mind, he is their most explosive guy on offense whether he’s running the ball of catching it out of the backfield. Three touchdowns against Texas. They are just missing his offensive energy. Just keep in mind, he is still out with that rib injury.”

The update from Rowe comes after Etienne walked into the locker room just before halftime. As mentioned, head coach Kirby Smart initially told her that Etienne was available to play in the second half but if he did, there would be a significant amount of pain.

However, Nate Frazier has taken over as Georgia’s main running back.

“Coach Kirby Smart told me he took a pretty significant shot to the rib,” Rowe said. “He is going to try to play here in this second half but he’s in a lot of pain. So, they don’t know how much or how effective he will be. He had a conversation with Trevor coming down the tunnel and looks like he does want to play but guys, it’s a pain tolerance issue.”

Etienne likely will finish the day with seven carries, going for 31 yards. Finding consistent form has been an issue for the transfer and was hoping to finally find his form against familiar foes.

The schedule does not slow down for Georgia anytime soon. Next week is a road trip to Oxford for the first time since 2016, Smart’s first year in charge of the program. This edition will have a whole lot more on the line as College Football Playoff lives will be at stake.

Following Etienne’s health and status moving forward will be a massive storyline heading into the Ole Miss game. Everyone in Athens will be hoping he can play in what could turn into a top-15 showdown.
