Georgia star running back Trevor Etienne was banged up coming into Saturday’s SEC Championship Game. Shortly before kickoff on ABC, the broadcast gave an update on his status. ESPN’s Holly Rowe shared the information with fans. “There’s big news guys. Trevor Etienne is going to try to play. He has been out for three straight weeks. He was the most explosive weapon in the last meeting against Texas. He has a rib injury but is wearing a Kevlar jacket and is going to give it a go,” Rowe explained.

The first quarter of their rematch against Texas had been pretty low scoring in the first quarter, with the Longhorns leading 3-0 with 2:55 left in the first quarter. Etienne had two carries in the first quarter, but posted negative yardage.

This season, Etienne has 95 carries for 477 rushing yards, while scoring seven touchdowns. As a receiver, he’s hauled in 23 catches for 140 receiving yards. One of his best performances of the 2024 campaign came in the Georgia-Texas matchup in the regular season, when Etienne had over 100 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.

Etienne was an instrumental part in the Bulldogs’ 22-19 victory in overtime. In a grind them out kind of game, the Georgia rushing attack continued to gash the Longhorns’ defense for much of the night. The Bulldogs finished with 141 rushing yards on 37 carries and two touchdowns. Etienne had the majority of those yards, finishing with 16 carries for 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Georgia freshman Nate Frazier had a good showing, finishing with six carries for 47 rushing yards and zero touchdowns.

Freshman quarterback Gunner Stockton came into the game for the second half for the Bulldogs, after starter Carson Beck went down with an injury at the end of the first half. Stockton completed 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards, while tossing in an interception.

Both teams have a spot locked up in the upcoming College Football Playoffs. We’ll have to tune in on Sunday at noon EST to see where both teams end up in the final rankings.
